ASTR 101 - Introduction to Astronomy (3)

ASTR 101 provides an introduction to solar system and stellar astronomy. The hi storical development of astronomy is presented as well as modern theories, obser vations, and ideas concerning the nature and evolution of planets, stars, and ga laxies. The course is normally delivered via the Internet. Not open to student s who have taken PHYS 342 or ASTR 342.

Three hours of lecture; also taught as an on-line course.

ASTR 342 - Elements of Astronomy (3)

ASTR 342 provides a practical and historical introduction to astronomy. The course includes an overview of solar system astronomy, stellar astronomy, galaxies, and cosmology. Historical and cultural aspects of the development of astronomy are emphasized. Laboratory work includes inquiry-oriented observations, modeling, and the use of computer simulations.

Two hours of lecture and two hours of acitivity.

Satisfies GE BB requirement and lab requirement and earth science requirement. Not open to students who have taken PHYS 342.
